Isn't that colour just gorgeous! Saltwater Sandals are relatively new to New Zealand but have been around for quite a while.
"Saltwater sandals originated in the early 1940s as an alternative to traditional children's leather sandals as a way to cope with leather shortages in World War II. The sandals were made primarily from scrap leather left over from making men's shoes." Source.
They continue on to this day as a popular trend in children's footwear, particularly in the southern and western states. Kind of like what Roman Sandals are to Kiwi kids, but wwwaaayyy stylier.
I was advised the best way to "fit" them to Maddy is to get her to put them on, stand in some water for a moment then hop out and let them dry while she still has them on. That way they will mold to her feet and avoid any rubbing or blisters.
The Original Saltwater Sandals are available in adult and children's sizes and in a range of colours from both Nature Baby and Future Feet.
Cute! I look forward to pairing them with these gorgeous crochet hair clips from Incy Wincy Designs that I picked up at the Crafternoon Tea last month. With a little cotton print dress, Maddy will be a picture of summer and sunshine.
Thank you Aunty Zizzy for the new summer sandals xxx
