Vintage Junior Elf Books

This giveaway is now closed.  The lovely winner was Megan Fiebig.  Thank you to everyone who entered.  We have another giveaway coming up very shortly so watch this space x

I can't remember how I first came across Rand McNallys Junior Elf Books but I have slowly amassed a nice tidy collection of them which I love.  The story lines are so simple and sweet.  And the illustrations are adorable and so idealistic.  Printed between 1947 and 1986, they are vintage childhood innocence at it's best.

Here are a few of my favourite titles from our collection...

I love that so many of the books have book plates or birthday messages inscribed inside the covers...

While collecting these books we have ended up with a few double ups so I thought I would offer them as a giveaway to our readers so someone else might enjoy these vintage beauties.  There are 7 books to giveaway including...

The Little China Pig (1959), Surprise in the Barnyard (1959), The Runaway Kangaroos (1959)...

The Three Wishes (1955), A Childs Garden of Verses (1962), The Bears Picnic (1954) and Little Duckling (1956).

There is a wee bit of scuffing to the covers and spines, most have names written inside the covers and one has a gorgeous book plate but overall they are in lovely condition considering their age.  The wording in some of the stories is a little dated by todays standards as would be expected but Madeline absolutely adores these books and requests them all the time so it obviously doesn't bother her.  They won't be to everyone's tastes but if you love vintage children's items then you will adore these books.

So, how do you win the sweet vintage books?  Simply like, comment and share the giveaway post on our Facebook page.  You need to do all three for a valid entry and your share needs to be public for me to see it.  Or you can comment on this blog post with a nice comment of some sort (anything really, you choose) plus your email address so I can notify you if you win.  Do both and receive two entries.

The giveaway is open to New Zealand residents only (sorry International readers!) and the winner will be drawn on Tuesday 3 June at 8.00pm.

Good luck x

  1. Oooh what a lovely giveaway! Count me in please. I couldn't believe one of the inscriptions inside is from st Mary's parish in Hawera, which is the church I went to when I was a child.. Well the Sunday school anyway! Xx

  2. I'm in too. I like finding inscriptions as well. I have a few Jnr Elf books - one of my little ones keeps putting them in an old tin lunchbox and pretending they're sandwiches.
