Product Review & Giveaway - Our Generation Dolls

No matter what the trend (and lets face it, there's a new one every month), there are certain toys that are timeless, that inspire open ended imaginative play and provide endless hours of entertainment long after the thrill of a blind bag (that took 5 seconds to rip open) has been discarded.  They are the toys that last the distance, the ones your kids come back to again and again, the ones you want to put away for your Grandkids to play with one day.

There are lots of five minute wonder toys, but for my girls their forever favourites include a wooden play kitchen and wooden food, Duplo & Lego, puzzles, Playdoh, arts & crafts and babies.  Oh the babies!  Both of my girls have been all about their babies since day one.  But as the girls get a little older and their tastes evolve, some new friends have joined the crew.  Say hello to Our Generation Dolls.  As a parent I think they're fabulous and my girls simply adore them!
Our Generation Dolls are the "twenty tens" answer to the 80's highly coveted Cabbage Patch and My Child dolls.  They are an age appropriate progression from playing babies with natural bright eyes, fresh faces and make up free with realistic bodies that are proportionate to the young girls who play with them.
Not only are they available with a huge range of skin, eye and hair colours but there is also an Our Generation Doll or accessory pack for almost every theme you can think of.  Does your daughter love kayaking?  No problem!  Want to be a lifeguard?  They've got you covered.  Want to be a Doctor?  Radiographer?  They've got that sorted too.  Girls can be and do anything and Our Generation Dolls reinforce that with add on outfits and accessories to match almost every hobby and interest you can think of!  Being the beach family we are, Maddie saved her pocket money for Our Generation Doll Coral with her wetsuit and surfboard.  Love it!
My girls aren't ready to leave their baby dolls behind yet so they incorporate their babies into their Our Generation Doll play for lots of enthusiastic, day long games of mums, sisters and babies.  A lot of parents whose daughters have recently outgrown playing with dolls, are delighted to see their daughters embracing Our Generation Dolls and bonding with friends through them.  I'm a firm believer that little girls shouldn't grow up too fast!  I've always said that I don't our girls to grow up too quickly.  They are only little for such a short time so I'm really thrilled to see the Our Generation Dolls as an extension of little girls playing babies.
(Spot the baby!  She's never far away!)

The Our Generation Dolls go EVERYWHERE with the girls from swimming lessons to Brownies, shopping and camping, netball, first aid courses, scooting, outdoor adventures, even Hawaii!  And of course sleep overs with friends and their Our Generation Dolls.  (I draw the line at taking them to school).
The girls are committed to their dolls care - they get them dressed in the morning and changed again after school for their after school activities and finally tucked snuggley in to their PJs at the end of the day.  The Market Stall in our playroom has been turned into a make shift wardrobe with all their outfit choices and accessories lined up.
They finish each day tucked up in their doll beds but inevitably end up snuggled in bed with the girls!
The girls have added in their existing baby clothes to the Our Generation Dolls clothes which aside being a little on the short side for these 18 inch tall dolls it all works pretty well.
Baby crochet hat and cardigan - an excellent fit!
Baby dress - more like a top so she has shorts on underneath!

We have a small collection of official accessories but the New World Little Shop food is proving a perfect size until we build up some more accessories.
If your daughter happens to watch toy reviews on YouTube like mine do, no doubt she will have come across American Girl Dolls and you may be asking what the difference is between an Our Generation Doll and an American Girl Doll.  Essentially, not much.  The significant difference is the price - American Girl dolls, which are only available in America, come with a hefty price tag (US$115+ = NZD$165+) and is only available by calling a US store and having it shipped to New Zealand at an additional cost.  Current season Our Generation Dolls start from NZ$72.  Quality and all functionality between the two dolls remains the same but I might even go as far to say that the American Girl Dolls have their two front teeth exposed between their lips which looks a little funny IMO.  It could just be me but you decide...
Left - American Girl Doll.  Right - Our Generation Doll.

Our Generation Dolls are widely available in New Zealand without the hassle and expense of ordering from America.  The two main retailers I recommend are Toy Co in St Lukes, Auckland which is one of our favourite toy stores.  It has everything you can think of and if you can't visit the store then they have an extensive website.  And Toy World which are located throughout the country but again you can order online if you don't have one nearby.  These retailers stock the latest Our Generation dolls and accessories as supplied by the New Zealand distributor so you know you are getting the genuine article.

There is also an Our Generation Doll Club you can join - just for New Zealand girls!  Full of fun school holiday activities, colouring competitions plus a loyalty rewards system for all your Our Generation Doll purchases.

My girls are simply delighted by their Our Generation Dolls and as a parent I can definitely recommend them as worth the money that will be forever favourite which will provide years of love and fun.  Interested?  Read on for giveaway details...
